Everything Is Illuminated
A few years ago, I randomly bought DVDs whose covers seemed interesting. Among these, I managed to haul Persepolis (French), Cinema Paradiso (Italian), and Everything Is Illuminated (American). Yes, sometimes I judge a film by its photo cover. Heehee.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I purchased the young author Jonathan Safran Foer's book, Everything Is Illuminated. I still haven't finished it, sadly, because I was practically unconscious last Saturday. And Saturdays are usually spent just reading in the comfort of my bedroom. Anyway, I'm currently in love with the way the story is written and the characters are simply so easy to adore. My favorite, without a doubt, of course, is Sammy Davis Junior, Junior. :") I told myself that I'd jot down my favorite lines or bookmark the pages with my favorite lines with my little sticky notes, but sometimes you just get so engrossed in the story that you forget. The next thing you know, you're twenty or thirty or a hundred pages away from the line that you wanted to remember. But I won't forget these: the description of the photograph and assumption of Augustine's relationship with Safran, as well as the despair that welled up within Brod.
It is definitely a most wonderful thing to read. I will surely reread this; it is such a heartwarming story. :')
The movie adaptation is a must-see as well. But as I always say, the book is so much better. :) |
